  • Chemical changes in the brain – Serotonin is a brain chemical that plays a role in mood states. The amount of serotonin the brain produces can also contribute to PMS depression, sleep problems and food cravings 
  • Depression – Mostly, women with undiagnosed depression have severe PMS. Although depression alone does not cause PMS symptoms 

There are things that could help in combating PMS: 

  • Regular exercise 
  • Eating a balanced and healthy diet 
  • Getting 7-8 hours of sleep every day 
  • Reducing stress by practicing yoga or meditation 
  • Taking painkillers to manage and ease the pain
