What is Dilation and Curettage (D&C)?

D&C involves gently dilating the cervix and removing tissue from the uterine lining using suction or a curette. It is performed under general or regional anesthesia in an operating suite.

What to expect after a D&C?

  • Cramping and mild pain for 1–2 days
  • Light bleeding or spotting for up to two weeks
  • Possible passage of old clots
  • Avoid tampons and intercourse for 2 weeks
  • Rest for 24–48 hours before resuming normal activities
  • Pain managed with prescribed analgesics
