What is Dilation and Curettage (D&C)?
D&C involves gently dilating the cervix and removing tissue from the uterine lining using suction or a curette. It is performed under general or regional anesthesia in an operating suite.
What to expect after a D&C?
- Cramping and mild pain for 1–2 days
- Light bleeding or spotting for up to two weeks
- Possible passage of old clots
- Avoid tampons and intercourse for 2 weeks
- Rest for 24–48 hours before resuming normal activities
- Pain managed with prescribed analgesics
