What conditions do behavioral health providers treat?
Behavioral health providers can evaluate and treat concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, trauma-related symptoms, mood disorders, attention problems, sleep-related concerns, and other emotional or behavioral difficulties. Treatment is individualized to each patient’s needs.

Therapy focuses on thoughts, emotions, behaviors, coping skills, and relationships through counseling or psychotherapy. Psychiatry is a medical specialty that can include diagnosis, medication management, and other medical treatments for mental health conditions.

Psychiatric evaluations and medication management may be part of behavioral health care when clinically appropriate. An evaluation helps the provider understand your symptoms, medical history, current medications, and treatment goals before recommending a plan.
Behavioral health visits are generally confidential and protected by privacy laws. There are limited exceptions, such as situations involving immediate safety concerns or certain reporting requirements required by law.
If there is an immediate danger, severe injury, or a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. For a mental health or suicide crisis in the United States, you can also call or text 988 for 24/7 crisis support.
