What is Venous/Vascular Ultrasound?
A duplex ultrasound uses sound waves to visualize veins and arteries and measure blood flow. It helps detect blood clots (DVT), venous insufficiency, and arterial disease that can affect foot health and wound healing. The test is noninvasive and performed by a trained technologist.
What to expect during and after the Ultrasound?
- Gel applied to the skin with a handheld probe moved along the leg
- Gentle pressure may be used to compress veins; brief calf squeezes may occur
- No needles, radiation, or anesthesia
- You can resume normal activities immediately
- Results reviewed with your provider to plan care
