Symptoms and Causes of Kidney Cancer

Kidney cancer is a type of cancer that starts in your kidneys, it is the abnormal growth of cells in the tissues of your kidney. These cells will eventually form a mass. When these tumors become cancerous or malignant, they can spread to your other tissues and vital organs. If you notice signs and symptoms of kidney cancer, you can consult Doral Health and Wellness and consult the best nephrologists in East New York

SYMPTOMS
Kidney cancer does not usually manifest symptoms during its preliminary stages. But when it does, you will notice these signs and symptoms:

  • You will notice blood in your urine, which can appear red or pink
  • You will feel pain in your backside that won’t seem to go away
  • You will lose your appetite
  • You will notice an unexplained weight loss
  • You will feel consistently tired
  • You will have a fever
  • Your blood pressure will rise

CAUSES

There is no known cause for kidney cancer, but there are certain risk factors that can increase your chances of developing kidney cancer. These can include:

  • Smoking – If you are a smoker, you are at greater risk for kidney cancer than people who do not smoke. Your risk will decrease once you quit smoking.
  • Old age – Your risk increases as you age
  • Obesity – Being obese is one of the risk factors for developing kidney cancer
  • Family history – If you have a family member who had or has kidney cancer, your risk of having it is extremely high
  • Hypertension – High blood pressure can also increase your risk of kidney cancer
  • Treatment for kidney failure – If you have previously received treatments for kidney failure, or undergoing long-term dialysis to treat chronic kidney disease, then you are at greater risk of developing kidney cancer
  • Certain inherited syndromes – There are certain inherited syndromes that may increase your risk of kidney cancer, such as Birt-Hogg-Dube syndrome, von Hippel-Lindau disease, hereditary papillary renal cell carcinoma, or familial renal cancer.

There is no exact cause for kidney cancer, so there really isn’t a way to prevent it. However, you can reduce your risk of developing kidney cancer by making some lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, regularly exercise, and managing your conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes.

Like most cancers, kidney cancer can be treated if caught and treated early. Your prognosis will depend on the type and stage of your cancer. While your chance of recovery will depend on your overall state of health.
