Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Constipation

If you have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) with Constipation, you’re likely to suffer from regular gas, abdominal pain, and difficult-to-move stools. Even while IBS-C isn’t life-threatening, it can be exceedingly inconvenient and disrupt your daily routine.

If you’ve been struggling to urinate for weeks or months on end, you may have a problem with your digestive system. Constipation is defined as a bowel movement occurring no more than twice per week. Additionally, if the condition persists for more than three months, you are suffering from chronic constipation.

Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation, or IBS-C, is a digestive disorder that shares many symptoms with chronic constipation. Doctors aren’t sure if the two ailments are connected or distinct because their symptoms are so similar.

Similarities in Symptomatology

If you have IBS-C or chronic constipation, you may have the following symptoms:

  • lumpy and hard stools
  • Feel like something is stopping your bowel movement
  • Don’t feel like you’ve emptied all your stool in the bathroom
  • Deal with gas and bloating

Signs and Symptoms of Gastrointestinal Problems and Constipation

Chronic constipation alone does not cause all of the symptoms of IBS-C. If you have IBS-C

  • You may experience stomach pain and discomfort that is relieved by bowel movements. Pain can be excruciating.
  • Have regular bowel movements or loose, watery stools when not constipated.

Causes of Constipation

You may already be aware that a diet low in fiber might result in constipation. Intestinal obstructions, on the other hand, can be the cause of persistent constipation. Irritable bowel syndrome-C (IBS-C) is a mystery, but clinicians have some theories.

  • Drugs for depression, pain, Parkinson’s, heart disease, and other diseases
  • Type 2 diabetes or thyroid disorders
  • Calcium levels in your blood can be affected by a variety of medical conditions, including spinal cord injury and colorectal disease.
  • Intestinal bacterial, hormonal, or chemical imbalances are all probable causes of IBS-C, as can a dysfunctional connection between the brain and the intestines.
  • A history of IBS-C or other digestive issues runs in your family.

Diagnosis

Constipation cannot be diagnosed with a specific test. Starting with your medical history and a physical exam, your doctor will get to know you better.

In order for your gastroenterologist to get a full picture of your digestive and other health problems, he or she will speak with you. The next step is to get tests done to figure out what’s wrong with you and figure out the best way to treat it. Doral Health can help you in this situation.
